Meet Your Team

Hello, I am Dr. Amelia Herrera, principal writer for Westside Custom Copy!Though I am new to the copywriting business, my extensive career in education has long prepared me to succeed as a copywriter. When your entire job for the last 18 years is based on using words to motivate students to buy in to the content you’re teaching-you learn the words and phrases that prompt people to move. You learn what motivates even the toughest of audiences to take action. Because my students are from all over the world-I have also broadened my global perspective and gained deeper insights into what motivates multitudes of cultures to take action-which is the goal of copywriting. I am also very familiar with what school districts and other educational organizations need and want when looking to contract with educational consultants and creatives.On a more technical level, I hold a B.A, in English and a B.S. in Chicano Latino Studies, a Master’s Degree in Counseling, two teaching credentials, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Equity. In 2020 I was also asked to co-create the Transformative Social Emotional Learning Policies, Competencies, and Resources Framework for the California Department of Education. Currently, I teach H.S. English to newcomers, am a lecturer in the Bilingual Teaching Credential program at CSU, Stanislaus, and am the CFO for the United Black Student Unions of California (UBSUC). Each position I hold, informs my copywriting.To add, I have also spent hundreds of hours learning marketing strategies, buyer psychology, and the skill of copywriting itself. I have done this through reading books, listening to audibles, listening to podcasts, studying good copy, practicing copywriting on my own platforms, and watching Youtube videos. (Remember, I have a lot of degrees... which means I am a successful student... so you know I know how to study and learn! : ) ).
I am also a published author and have written curriculum and blogs for popular education curriclum companies. Maybe I should have led with that?Aside from academic stuff, I am also a mother of 3 girls (18, 11, 11) who I adore. We have a German Shepherd named Lenny and a Rottweiler named Wanchan. I workout 5-6 days a week so I can enjoy eating great food. I also love to read, and work in my yard to stay balanced and sane!Though I have a lot going on, you should know, that when you hire me you are getting my full 100% effort!
